In using this space and name we wanted to remind you about Krk’s noblemen, the Frankopans, who were true rulers, loved by the people of the island from 1118 until 1480. They belonged to the most powerful medieval Croatian noble families.
Their courts, fortresses, churches and bell-towers throughout the island of Krk, as well as the town’s castles, are the island’s jewels made of stone…
They have left part of themselves behind in the buildings and in their written and traditional heritage. Stone, wood and iron were the materials used to build and enrich the areas in a very specific, medieval way and worthy of every respect.
Their manuscripts, written in several languages and particularly in the Glagolitic alphabet (the first Croatian alphabet created in 9th century) are monuments to the religious, legal, literate and economic content that surpassed the period, space and the people themselves. This is an eternal heritage left for mankind.
The Frankopan noblemen marked the Croatian identity within its European and world dimension.
Their name comes from two Italian words “franger pane” (meaning breaking bread), which even inspired the creation of the Frankopan coat of arms consisting of two lions breaking bread. A replica of the Frankopan coat of arms has been built into the stone wall of your room as well as in the living room, and on your pillow the name of the hotel “Malin” has been written in the Glagolitic alphabet.
Dear guests, enjoy the island of Krk, visit the Frankopan’s castle, encounter our heritage or simply enjoy and relax at the Malin hotel – “Frangepani” suite…
