Krk – an ideal blend of a history of a thousand years and a rich tourist offer

Island of Krk – an island connected to mainland Croatia by Krčki Most, an approximately 1,5 kilometer long bridge. The island of Krk or The Golden Island, as it was called in ancient times, has many unique features and it is a voyage through time across the millennia of rich history. Today the island is a vibrant place offering well-thought-out tourist programs, modern amenities, extensive wine lists and great food made from local produce. Seven cities on the island were once protected by fortresses, the remains of which still exist today. Pearls of the past have been preserved in stones in Glagolitic script – an alphabet dating back to the 9th century. Some monuments on the island date back thousands of years. Castles abandoned by the Frankopan family, the old monarchs of the island, can be found on the island. Churches, chapels, and monasteries are abundant and are filled with echos of whispered prayers. Simple stone walls line many of the roads and dissect the fields representing unique borders handbuilt by men—their hands full of blisters. Aromatic and healing herbs, salted olives, and sweet tasting figs grow out of the islands rocky ground. Beautiful, white-pebbled beaches lay under the warm Croatian sun. Salty ham known as pršut in Croatia or prosciutto elsewhere, can be found drying in the wind. Honey, wine, cheese, olive oil, dried figs and brandy are used to welcome our many guests. A suitcase full of wonderful secrets, memories, and experiences that arrived once upon a time – this is the island of Krk!
